Walking in Bangkok is not a pleasant experience. Broken sidewalks, crowded food vendors and the intense heat all combine to make sightseeing on foot extremely unpleasant. However there is a decidedly 21st century way of seeing this historic city.
Segway Tours Thailand is located a quick boat ride up the Chao Phraya River at the Maharaja Pier. When we arrived at Segway Tours we were greeted by Khun Jun who would be our tour guide for the day. After watching a brief safety video we went outside for a training session on the Segways.
Invented by American scientist Dean Kamen, the Segway Personal Transport is a self balancing two wheeled stand up scooter. Using advanced computers and software the Segway responds to the body movements of the rider. Lean forward and the Segway will start moving forward, straighten up and it will stop. The Segway is surprisingly stable and I found it extremely easy to operate.
After our training sessions we headed out for our 1.5 hour tour with our guide Khun Jun who provided excellent commentary and insights into the many historic buildings and temples we saw along the way. Segway Tours Thailand offers a number of tours ranging from 1 hour to over 6 hours but for myself and my 65-year old mother we found the 1.5 hour tour just perfect. Keep in mind that you are standing on the Segway for the entire tour and after an hour and a half we had had just about enough of the Bangkok heat.
After a complimentary drink and photos we made our way back to the Maharaja Pier. Overall I was extremely impressed with Segway Tours Thailand and especially our guide, Khun Jun, who spoke excellent English and was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Thailand.
I found the Segway incredibly easy to use and was comfortable on it in less than 5 minutes; if you’ve done any downhill skiing, I think you will feel the same. My mother was a little more cautious but after about 10 minutes of training she was comfortable enough to go out on the tour and by the end of the tour she was whizzing around on the Segway like a pro.
If you are looking for a fun and unique way to see the historic sights of Bangkok I would highly recommend taking a tour from Segway Tours Thailand.

I had no idea this even existed in Bangkok. It’s a great idea and thanks for the multi-media write-up!
Also thx for your coverage of April 12th 🙂

These things are hilarious! I’ve always wanted to try one out and what better place to give it a shot. I’ll for sure be doing this next time I’m in Bangkok:)
The tour is a little pricey but I was very impressed with the knowledge and English ability of the tour guide. As we all know many Thai businesses lack proper customer service but this one was really well done.
cool. I never rode a segway before
can somebody post the price?
Prices depend on which tour you take but they are listed on their website.
